Plastic Industry Group - Industry Overview

This sector has over 600 plastic packaging companies and the Waste Minimisation Project has the potential to demonstrate benefits and learning to manufacturers and possibly plastic recyclers in all states.

Companies in this sector have shown enthusiasm for the AMC's group learning process. The companies approached, realise that by joining the project there is a responsibility to achieve improvements. The Melbourne-based Plastics and Chemical Association (PACIA) has agreed to endorse the initiative.

The Coca-Cola Company has a $25m facility which reforms PET containers into a material that can be reused as beverage containers or in other industries such as clothing. Coca-Cola has some advanced technology and practices which may be suitable to transfer into the internal operations of upstream suppliers. The companies who have joined should have an impact on other companies in the industry and motivate them to upskill their knowledge and achieve waste objectives.
