Futuris Brakes Investigation of options for optimising energy use, after the presentation by SEDA Potential to reduce energy use, resulting in direct cost savings and a reduction of greenhouse gases.
Conducted an audit of the compressed air lines with identified significant leaks which are estimated to cost $50,000 pa.
Plan to implement remedial work in stages to fix the leaks.
Results of the audit were presented to the Metals Industry Group in the meeting on 30/05/01 and the group will be updated on the continuing progress of this project.
Luxfer Investigation of ways to effectively utilise the metal swarf created from the machining process. Luxfer have sourced a briquetting machine which will crush the swarf blocks and remove 98% of the oil. They will be obtaining a machine on a trial basis.
Luxfer have estimated that the use of this machine will increase the value of their waste by $110, 000 pa. which equates to six month pay back period on the capital cost of one machine.
Results of their study and research have been made available to the Metals Group. Updates on this project shall be made available as the trial progresses.
