Biotechnology - Research Parks

The NSW Government is proactive in promoting biotechnology and has provided significant support fot the establishment of the Australian Technology Park in Sydney, a major centre for biotechnology research, as well as five other research parks, two of which are under development.

  • Australian Technology Park
Based in central Sydney, and supported by three major universities, the ATP is a dynamic campus for research with a focus on biotechnology. The ATP operates as an incubator fostering the growth of start-up companies in bio-technology, photonics, multimedia and advanced Internet services.

  • Macquarie University Research Park
This research park provides an interface between the university and commercial enterprises. Becton Dickinson, Siemens and Goodman Fielder are the current anchor tenants. The Australian Proteome Analysis Facility and Macquarie Research Ltd are also located within the Park.

  • Riverside Corporate Park
Based on the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) campus in northern Sydney. Industry works closely alongside government researchers in a variety of fields including molecular sciences, food sciences, agriculture and mining. Industries also benefit from being close to North Ryde, Sydney's equivalent of Silicon Valley.

  • ANSTO Business and Technology Park
Is located adjacent to the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation's (ANSTO) Lucas Heights laboratories in Sydney's southwest. The park promotes interaction and technology transfer in the fields of environmental science, biomedicine, pharmaceuticals, advanced materials, computing and scientific instrumentation.

  • Southern Cross University Research Park
This park is currently being developed and will become an international centre for research, development and commercial production of natural plant products.
    Westmead Biomedical Business Park
This park is also currently being developed in Sydney's West and will draw on the expertise of Westmead Hospital and associated medical research centres.
