Sustainable
Business Development
Outcomes
There have been numerous positive outcomes since the inception of
this program over two years ago. These can be broadly categorised in
the following areas:
- Delivery. Over 18 expert speakers have addressed the forum
under a range of manufacturing sustainability areas covering Corporate
and Govt drivers, Strategies for Industry, Tools for implementation
and real time examples from Industry. Refer to the outline of the program
provided on page 4.
- Education. The program has served to raise the awareness among
professionals in the manufacturing sector of the realities involved
with bringing sustainability into their organisations as part of the
corporate culture. It has increased the level of debate over 'What Sustainability
means for us?' and provided resources for finding some answers.
- Technology Diffusion. The program provided a platform to explain
to the manufacturing sector a range of hard and soft technologies leading
to sustainability. The program has not only covered the technical issues
such as renewable energy, factory redesign to incorporate energy saving
devices , but also advanced topics of operations covering strategic
issues and how to gain support for engaging a wider range of employees
in the process
- Networking. Of strategic importance in the strengthening of
individuals capacity to achieve changes within their organisations is
the provision of support. A fundamental level of support is provided
through participants meeting and linking with like minded professionals.
These seminars provide an opportunity to be able to connect the areas
of industry, government and non-government organisations to achieve
common goals.
- Formation of the Alliance. Through the dedication and commitment
of a select number of professionals it has been possible to create the
Australian Sustainable Business Alliance (ASBA) Committee. This Alliance
will be the forum through which this energy can be channelled to create
a self-supporting and sustainable reference point for Sustainable Manufacturing,
not only in Western Sydney but across Australia.
