Food
Industry Group
The Advanced Manufacturing Centre Limited (AMC) is linked into
a national technology access and diffusion network, which provides individual
clients and industry-wide groups with access to best Australian and
overseas advice and expertise.
The Food Industry Group comprises of representatives of food
companies operating within the manufacturing sector. Participants range
from large multinational companies to Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
The food group is facilitated by the AMC to stimulate and implement
innovation, new materials and packaging technologies, education and
training, Industrial Ecology and other productive and profitable initiatives
within the Food Industry to better Australia's manufacturing competitiveness
on an international scale.
The AMC has been designed as a "Virtual Organisation" with
each industry group led by a convenor, in most cases, a highly experienced
and qualified expert from the academic/research world under contract
with the AMC. The current Food Industry Group is managed by Dr Andrew
Aschner and coordinated by Rita Lahoud (BA Hon).
All projects are industry-driven. They identify macro industry technology
problems that are addressed and for which common solutions are sought
that are able to offer industry-wide benefits.
At present, a number of specific project teams have been established.
The AMC's approach provides assurance that its projects:
" Have the support of industry leaders,
" Are directed at practical solutions,
" Will be tested and implemented, and
" Will have the new technology transferred to industry.
The achievements made by these groups can be attributed to the collaborative
effort of the group and the ability to exchange ideas without any loss
of confidentiality or commercially sensitive information being passed
on. This type of group environment has allowed for sharing of existing
solutions along with jointly developing new solutions and developing
a common approach to eliminating/modifying materials & procedures
that do not add value to the company.
